Wednesday 24 October 2012 at 8.30 pm will take place the finissage of the installation “Let’s call the whole thing off“ by the artist Fabrizio Giannini, the latest in the series of public events “positions in space”. On this occasion, Laura Solari and Stéphane Robert of edizioni dasein (Paris/Lugano) will hold a conference entitled “position in (social) space”: a true itinerary between books and art.
The cycle of “positions” has, so far, also presented excursus on publishing, graphic design and its incursions into architecture and art – almost a “series within the series”: first with the architect Francesco Buzzi (“position” 5) and then with the artists Matteo Terzaghi and Marco Zürcher (“position” 12).
Laura Solari and Stéphane Robert will talk of the evolution of their artistic/editorial activity by showing a selection of printed works, including those produced with Fabrizio Giannini. They will be illustrating how their approach fits into a highly structured and decisive space that is the “social space”. To publish means to question oneself on aspects which, normally, according to dasein, are concealed: issues of circulation and distribution, the specific relationship with the edited objects and, above all, the relationship between the social space that ons occupies and the type of production that one can and must promote. Solari and Robert will be making reference to concepts devised by the famous french sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002).
Edizioni dasein, an autonomous creative space, was founded in 2004 by the artist Laura Solari and the graphic designer Stéphane Robert. They have so far published over 40 volumes which vary in form and content in order to adapt to the desires of the presented artists. The selected artistic projects – texts, music, images, videos... – are specifically designed for the publication.
The installation “Let’s call the whole thing off” curated by Fabrizio Giannini can be seen every day at i2a istituto internazionale di architettura (ground floor gallery, Portich da Sura 18, Vico Morcote, Switzerland, Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm, free admittance) until Wednesday 24 October 2012. The conference by Laura Solari and Stéphane Robert will be held during the finissage at 8.30 pm, in Italian and French.
The events will be broadcast via live streaming on www.i2a.ch.
